Many visitors to the Melia Sharm Resort and Spa experience satisfactory levels of safety and hygiene. However this is not the case for everyone. Many holidaymakers have questioned the resorts claim to be a 5 star establishment, observing poor standards of hygiene and unpleasant smells around the hotel.
Symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea and high temperatures have been common and are usually related to poisoning or coming into contact with unclean water. This had lead to many all-inclusive holidays being ruined and many holidaymakers left out of pocket.

COUPLES HOLIDAY RUINED
BY ILLNESS AT THE
MELIA SHARM RESORT AND SPA
“A strong smell of sewage was noted around the hotel.”
[ezcol_1third][/ezcol_1third] [ezcol_1third]What should have been a celebration for both Mr W’s engagement and birthday soon turned into a disaster. For almost one week of the holiday, Mr W and his partner suffered with diarrhoea, vomiting and abdominal cramps, for which he self-medicated with rehydration sachets. Excursions such as a V.I.P Heejan boat trip had to be cancelled as a result of the ongoing illness. The food was of a poor standard and inedible at times, with reports of lukewarm, recycled food being served in the dining area.[/ezcol_1third] [ezcol_1third_end]
A strong smell of sewage was noted around the hotel, and on one occasion Mr W was sprayed by a water sprinkler, which also carried an unpleasant smell. Mr W was also served ice, which turned cloudy and dark when melted. The hotel room added to the poor hotel experience, with reports of mould in the bathroom. Overall, what should have been a happy occasion left Mr W with tainted memories.

POOR STANDARDS AND ILLNESS
RUIN COUPLES HOLIDAY AT THE
MELIA SHARM RESORT AND SPA
“The hotel grounds smelled foul…a number of guests fell ill.”
[ezcol_1third][/ezcol_1third] [ezcol_1third]The couple were left bed-bound for almost two days as a result of developing stomach pains, diarrhoea, vomiting and a raised temperature during their stay at Melia Sharm Resort and Spa. Due to not feeling comfortable with venturing far from a toilet, the couple had to cancel excursions worth £200, for which they were not refunded. On several occasions, the hotel grounds smelled foul when the greenery was watered, and on one occasion another hotel guest vomited in the swimming pool. No attempt was made to close the pool and clean it sufficiently, despite it being apparent that numerous guests were falling ill with similar symptoms. [/ezcol_1third] [ezcol_1third_end]Further, leftover food was added to fresh food rather than being replaced, and the tables in the dining area were constantly filled with leftover food from other guests. These problems extended to the hotel room; the plug sockets, air-conditioning unit and shower were all broken, and mould surrounded the bath. Despite requests, the hotel room was not regularly cleaned, and towels/lined were not changed regularly. Overall, the couple were extremely disappointed with the holiday, and the service provided was far from the 5* price they had been sold on.[/ezcol_1third_end]
